Re: The Impact of Cults on Childhood Development
Just found an interesting article in my search for answers. Here are some excerpts: McLean describes her upbringing as living in a cult-like situation. “I’ve been drawn to books and documentaries about cults and part of the reason is because I really see something familiar,” she says. “It’s this fee...

Re: 7 Blessing Wedding
However a stark difference I noticed was this in the wedding I attended there was not this underlying tone that the husband was the authoritarian figure of the house that the wife was completely in submission to. This way of thinking leads to domestic violence. Just a quick correction if I may: the...

Re: 7 Blessing Wedding
But I do remember attending a few of them, there was nothing personal for the couple in that wedding. I regret that after attending about 20 weddings in one calendar year, I lost all interest in marriage. Deep down I desired it of course, but the incessant, repetitive, and comprehensively impersona...

Re: Cult-Like Narcissistic Systems
There are many parallels between the JWs, and CF churches. Here is a 15 minute, video by a Christian lady sharing her experience of visiting a JW conference. I was particularly amused by what JWs call “new light”, which they often hear at their yearly conventions. Sound familiar? https://youtu.be/B...

Re: Cult-Like Narcissistic Systems
I recently discovered that I was unwittingly involved in illegal activities at a particular xCF. I was too naive to question any of it at the time.... the ethics and things people were asked to do were shady and unethical.

Re: A passage that describes spiritual abuse
Here’s a tasty quote from the article: Evangelical scholar Ronald Enroth agrees that "The cultic pattern downplays the mind,” while “the biblical pattern values understanding and knowledge. The Bible not only respects the mind as an important part of the image of God in which man was created, b...

Re: A passage that describes spiritual abuse
I’ll be very interested to read that article, Lillith. I had some post-xCF friends who went through YWAM and loved it. They did try to persuade me to join as well when my life was a bit directionless but I balked at the cost of entry. Perhaps I was subconsciously picking up cult vibes too? I’d say m...

Re: THE GOD WHO SEES
What actually happened with Mr. M Wylie? I thought he was one of the head honchos in BCF? Is he an elder still Murray was unceremoniously stood down about a decade ago I think. I remember hearing murmurings at the time that he suffered from a "fragile mental state" and "depression&qu...
